Customize subtitles for readability

Bigger fonts, higher contrast, and subtle backgrounds make subtitles easier to read from the couch.

Web (Account settings)

  1. Go to Account → your Profile → Subtitle appearance.
  2. Size: Medium/Large; Font: clean sans‑serif; Color: white or yellow for contrast.
  3. Background: enable semi‑transparent black (or add drop shadow) to separate text from bright scenes.

TV / Devices

Check your TV’s Accessibility settings for Closed Caption/Subtitles styles. Many TVs let you set a global style that Netflix will respect.

  • Increase edge style or outline to keep letters crisp over noisy backgrounds.
  • For kids content, a slightly larger size helps at longer viewing distances.

FAQ

Should I use yellow text?

Yellow offers great contrast on dark scenes. If it clashes with the content, white with a shadow is a solid default.

Why not fancy fonts?

Decorative fonts reduce legibility at distance. Stick to clean sans‑serif (Arial‑like) styles for clarity.
